DSL & Sudbrook School heading for a joint future

We are pleased to announce that the German School London (DSL) and Sudbrook School have reached an agreement for DSL to integrate Sudbrook School into its operations and community, as of 31 March, 2025.

With this acquisition, we are ensuring that Sudbrook School, based in the Village Hall at the heart of Petersham for nearly 60 years and teaching generations of young children from local families, will continue to serve its community. The DSL, a stone's throw away on the other side of Petersham Road, has been teaching children aged between 3 and 18 years for more than 50 years. Situated in the wonderful grounds around Douglas House, the DSL has long been providing excellent academic and career opportunities to local as well as international children.

The two schools share ethos and values and both offer first-class education in an international and friendly learning environment. We put our children at the centre, enabling them to express their individuality and promoting independent learning and critical thinking.

Co-owners of Sudbrook School Jo Jotischky and Jackie Mitchell comment: "We are delighted that DSL is taking over Sudbrook School and will continue to run it as a children's nursery. Sudbrook has occupied a very special place in the community since opening in 1962. It has been a privilege to have run the school for the last 20 years, educating generations of local children. We have always enjoyed a good relationship with DSL, and we know they have plans to grow the school, guaranteeing its long term future. We are happy to be leaving Sudbrook School in such good hands".

Oliver Schmitz, Headteacher of the DSL observes: "Sudbrook School is a perfect complement to the DSL strategy, because it allows the school to broaden its bilingual offering further to include younger years. It helps us to bring children together learning, living, creating and building bridges in our fantastic facilities".

Matthias Krauss, Commercial Director of the DSL explains: "We are delighted that this successful nursery will form part of our school and are convinced that the transition will be smooth. It will not only strengthen the school's long-term financial position but also widen the foundation for starting long-term careers at the DSL".

Marie Rocha (Head of the DSL Kinderhaus) together with Mariana Pandi (Nursery Manager of Sudbrook School) and the support of their professional and passionate teams will ensure that the children continue to enjoy outstanding care in a familiar and friendly environment.

Applications for the summer term and beyond are now open.

We are very much looking forward to this shared future.
