21.05.2025: DSL welcomes distinguished visitors

Special visitors at the DSL
We welcomed Simone Oldenburg, President of the Bildungsministerkonferenz (Conference of Education Ministers). The Minister of Education of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was accompanied by Norbert Tack, Head of the Office of the Ministerium für Bildung und Kindertagesförderung (Ministry for Education and Childcare), and Max Breitling, representative of the German Embassy in London.
After a tour of all departments (administration, BQ, Kinderhaus, primary school, FOS and secondary school) with the senior leadership team, the minister spent two hours actively participating in lessons in a primary and a secondary school class. In both classes, she was able to observe how our students worked independently and collaboratively their way through various subjects and tasks during Lernplanstunden. The only distraction from learning was requests for autographs, which the Minister was happy to oblige. During lunch, the Minister had a very open and interested discussion with representatives of all school stakeholders: students, parents, the board and teachers. Amongst the topics discussed were life and work at a German school abroad, the Abi presentation as a modern exam format, financing German schools abroad and the special challenges facing the DSL (Deutsche Schule London) in the UK.
The visit concluded with a walk to our recently acquired nursery, Sudbrook School.
